I have a Maytag dishwasher less than 2 years old, all 3 of the cycle buttons work, however, only one of the option buttons work (heated dry), the other two do not, and the "Start" button don't work, thought I may have to replace the curcit board, is there any way that this board can be tested? it would be nice if Maytag would defray some of the cost of this expensive item being that it is only a few months out of warranty.

Most likely the problem is a bad control panel, not the control board. If you need the correct part number, post the color of the control panel and the serial number of the dishwasher.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for MAYTAG MDBH979AWW2 UNDERCOUNTER DISHWASHER | AppliancePartsPros.com

I've given up buying $300 worth of parts to fix this machine each year for the past three years.Original cost $700. It's a lemon. Some say the hot steam system fouls the control panel and control module. I have replaced the soap dispenser too as the coil melted. It just doesn't tolerate the heat generated by the system. A shout out to Maytag now. .Whirlpool: recall your lemons and keep some integrity so we might return to buy your products. Appliance pros you must love this machine. Lots a parts needed. Don't get me wrong I like the service you provide. But have you asked yourselves what you might do when so many people are having the same difficulty over and over and over again. For instance do you post a forum on the most repaired appliances or perhaps contact the manufacturer when this occurs. Something that might be outside of looking your bottom-line perhaps. That would be good costumer service too- right. Just some suggestions.

I did a search for threads about this unit.
Of 15,203 threads I found 5 about the MDBH979 series.

I just volunteer here but I do not think the above would qualify this unit as a lemon.

Also they would have to know how many units were sold.

You never used to see Bosch units on the forum and they had a fantastic reputation. But now you see them fairly often simply because they are selling more units.

I think the only folks out here that have enough info to declare a unit a lemon is the manufacturer and I do not see that happening in the near future.
Unless of course it s really, really bad like the Neptune washing machine.

Thanks for your response. I did a search for Maytag control panel and got this. http://forum.appliancepartspros...rch.php?searchid=5614187thisis on your site.
not to mention repair ************'s forum on the model and consumer affairs web site, which has 401 complaints about Maytag and it looks like half are control panel issues with dishwashers. Really no red flags here for you guys. What is a pro or expert if they don't do what's right.

My dad's is doing the exact same thing as the OP from 2011.

Any test or troubleshooting to be done?

Also noted that the last two times it ran, it didn't trip the main wash soap door.

Main control board issue or control panel issue? Serial number is FY2602846. Don't know how old it is, several years at least, is it worth fixing?

Here are the parts
Parts for Maytag MDBH979AWW2 Dishwasher - AppliancePartsPros.com

Following is a link to the tech sheet.
It is too big to upload here so I had to use a third party site.
Unclick the use our download manager and then use the grey button to download it. Otherwise the site may put software onto your computer that you do not want.
Download MDBH979.pdf
The usual way to troubleshoot this is to check the control panel/keypad keys with a meter (see the tech sheet)
Then if it is OK replace the control board.
Still a bit of a crap shoot but your odds are better.

You may also want to try the following.
Connector Cleaning / Checking
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.

Note that I am off to the cabin later today and will not be available till the middle of next week if you need more help.
So if you do need more help it may be best to start a new post, be sure to include the make and model.
