I installed a whirlpool duet on a ground fault plug and an electronic water shut off valve. It trips the ground fault and faults out the water valve. Is this a common problem? It runs fine on a regular plug and not run at all with the electronic water valve. The ground fault is required by code for this install.

These auto shut off valves are a world of trouble. I am assuming what is happening is that the machine is drawing too much power to try to get water through the shut off valves.

You can try different shut off valves, but if you cannot get one set to work then you have a choice of taking them off permanently, or taking them off to use the machine.

I understand you want to protect against a flood. Metal hoses are not perfect, but they give you a lot of protection against a hose rupture.

Yes, they are also a problem. I am not aware of code provisions that require a GFI, particularly if the washer is on a separate circuit.
