what to do to troubleshoot? have wiring diagram from top cover but don't know where devices are located to test...
Ok, found them...had to take top off dryer(shops were telling me I had to take front off and remove drum). Turned out one terminal of heating element was corroded, and wire burned off. Bit of wire brushing and DeOxit, a new terminal and short splice of wire, back in business. Probably won't last very long before corrosion takes over again, so I guess I start weighing whether to buy a new element or find a cheap used dryer...

If you were able to make a good connection it may last a long time.
Sometimes the connection is not perfect right from the factory and as current passes through it it heats up. This causes corrosion and pitting which degrades the connection, which causes more heat and so on and so on till the connection fails. |
