somewhat rough start and finish....clicking sound ; I lubed tensioner arm and ran without belt....still a clicking sound.

As unit is 12 -15 years old are the bearings near gone ?

I cannot say.
But when the bearings go they usually seize or squeal not click.
You may want to check this

Have you checked i the blower, could be something has fallen into it.
