Looking for possible problem parts to R&R. Observing the diagrams I can only see a couple of possible culprits. The Defrost Thermostat (AP4080326) or the Evaporator Heater (AP4078434). That is all I can see in the circuit. Only other possible bad part I can think of is the Electronic Control (which is also the most expensive) (AP4366538) but I'm not sure how that would cause the icing if the defrost heater was working. Any advice/tips would be appreciated. Thank you.

How did you know it was working? The defrost heater and the defrost thermostat (while it's cold) have to be tested for continuity. Gene.

Gene, Thanks for the response. I don't know that the heater or the termostat is good yet, have not tested them but trying to get parts together before emtying the freezer. I was just trying to get a read if it could possibly be the electronic control unit instead. My first two bogies are the Defrost thermostat and the heater. I will order them first and see if that works. I was just wondering if anyone had other experiences with a part I was overlooking. Thanks again.

Based on my experience, the defrost heater and thermostat rarely fail on this model refer you have. The control board or (jazz board) as it is called fail quite frequently. There is a test sequence you can run through and you can find the info if you remove the front toekick grill at the bottom, and over on the right side taped up is a wire schematic and instructions for testing the defrost cycle. I would bet the board is at fault.

abadfish66, Thanks, that was a great help but I'm not sure of what I've learned. I put it in programming mode and it showed the correct program code per the serial plate. Then ran it through the forced defrost mode which defaulted to the short run period. Then put it in the Service Test Mode and ran service test 1, Defrost Thermostat & Defrost Circuit Test. It came up Defrost Thermostat Shorted (Closed). Then ran test 3 Evaproator/Freezer Fan Test and it toggled between of and on normally. Then did test 5 , Freezer Thermistor Test and it turned up P (pass). I did not do the 2, compressor/Condenser Fan Test or the 4, Fresh Food Thermistor Test; or the 6, Open Damper Test; or the 7,8, performance adjustments. Do I need to do these? They don't seem relevant to me. At any rate, based on these results do you think the board is still the problem? If so, what number on the diagrams is the board you are refering to. Thanks so much for your help, I am learning a lot about this frige. Very interesting.

Diagram#4 item #13 is the board....From what you described, the problem is with the board... It is abit tricky getting access to the board. You want to remove the light shield, then on both sides, right ant left you will want to stick a screwdriver in the slots to release the tabs. Pull down on the side while realeasing the tab. When you get the sides unlocked, pull down on the front of the control area. There are more plastic tabs there. It will seem like you are gonna break it, but you wont.

Thanks a bunch for the detailed instructions. I will order the board tonight. When it gets here I will remove power, thouroughly defrost the unit, R&R the card and reapply power. Will that about do it? Will post again when finished. Best regards.

Finally got around to completely defrosting the coils and changing out the control board. Checked the heater for resistance and go about 30 ohms. Programmed the new board to the appropriate programming code. All seems to be running. Only time will tell if the defrost cycle is back running properly. Thanks for the great help with this. Outstanding detailed instructions definitely made all the difference.
