Have this Whirlpoos Side By Side Model number ED2FHEXSB02 that wasn't getting cold.

Took off back of FREEZER wall, and see frozen ice. Defrosted, and put back in service to test. I assume it will happen again in a few days.

How do I test the parts necessary. We are here in Kona, Hi.

I assume it could be the Heater Coil that is broken, maybe there is a thermostat, cause there is a small quarter size item with two wires on top. Or maybe there is a circuit board.

How do I test this unit, so I purchase the correct part.

Thanks, Tom

Go to web site www.applianceaid.com, there you will find two proceedures to initiate defrost, one should work. If not, replace the adaptive defrost board AP4981837

Looked at link, found much information on defrost cycling., but not two items titled Initiating Defrost Cycle.

First, does this model have a Defrost Timer or does it rely on the Defrost Thermostat getting COLD thus turning on the heat to the heater coil?

And from reading, I would say that shorting out the Thermostat wires would initiate a DEFROST Cycle if it it indeed in series with the Heater Element.

Could not locate part adaptive defrost board AP4981837

WHich parts does this Refrig use TIMER or Thermostat

Obviously I see HEATER COIL, I See a Two Wired Quarter Size Possibly Thermostat, Don't know where the adaptive defrost board AP4981837, and I don't see a Defrost Timer, unless I need to look a little closer.

It uses a adaptive defrost board located behind the control panel. Try pushing the door light button 5 times in 6 seconds, might initiate defrost.

See the attachment it may help you force a defrost.

Defrost is controlled by the main board Item 6 in Section 3.
