Yes it does sound like 2 problems.
[COLOR="Blue"]1). It seems to take more time for the clothes to get dry as compared to years ago when we first bought it. I have cleaned the lint out the vent line and it appears that we have good air flow.[/COLOR]
Did you check the air flow where it exits the house. Sometimes the vent louvers do not fully open.
You may want to clean/check the blower wheel.
If the unit has a Temperature Switch does it make a difference to the heat output. Could be the switch is shot.
Could be you have a grounded element, the element has sagged or broken and is touching the case.Check the heating coil.
Unplug the unit and both wires to the coil.
Check it with a meter, should be around 10 ohms.
Then check from each side of the coil to the case/frame, both should be infinite ohms (open). If not you have a grounded element and it should be replaced.
[COLOR="Blue"]2). If we put a load of wet clothes in, they will eventually dry. On some occasions the dryer will shut off as it is supposed to when the clothes are dry. On most ocassions the dryer will not shut off. The heating element will turn off, the clothes will be dry and cool, but the drum keeps rotating, and will continue to rotate unless someone finally shuts it off. We set the timer to "Auto Dry Regular Fabrics". When the dryer does not sut off, the timer rotates, but does not go all the way to "Off"[/COLOR]
This does sound like a timer problem, it is sticking just before off.
Note: That in timed dry the timer motor gets it's power directly through a sety of timer contacts. I auto modes it gets its power through a set of contacts in the main thermostat so only gets power when the heater is off.
