WE HAVE A MAYTAG DRYER THAT IS STARTS, RUNS, THEN EITHER STOPS MIDCYCLE OR AFTER COMPLETING A CYCLE WILL NOT RESTART:confused: . AFTER A CYCLE IF WE PRESS THE START BUTTON, ALL WE GET IS A HUM FROM THE MOTOR THEN THERE IS A CLICK AND THEN NOTHING. FROM THAT POINT, WE HAVE TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL DO ANYTHING AT ALL AGAIN. I TOOK IT ALL APART, AND VACUUMED THE LINT, ETC FROM IT AND ATTEMPTED TO LUBRICATE THE MOTOR SHAFT IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT TWO DAYS AND THEN DEAD AGAIN. THE TUB WILL SPIN ON ITS OWN. IF THERE IS ANYONE WITH ANY INPUT, I WOULD REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE IT!! THANKS IN ADVNCE TERRY:) :)

Check the motor for lateral play in the bushings.

Hi TerryW Richappy was right, most likely the problem is a bad motor (#15 on the motor drive break down diagram). It was heating up during the first cycle (could be because of bad bearings) and then the start winding got overheated and could not start the motor. The motor is not repairable and has to be replaced. - The part number for the new motor AP3988574 - Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag dryer Model LDE8404ACEGood luck. Gene.
