Are you sure the problem with your fridge is the bad defrost heater?

Yes. I paid a service man to come look at it. He said it was the Defrost timer and heater defrost.

In that case there is nothing wrong with the defrost heater.
The problem is the defrost thermostat.

Thanks. They quoted me a price to change the heater of $450.00. Saved a bundle.

Oh, by the way, do I have to turn the dial on the timer again, or just let it where it is at?

Leave the timer on defrost. In about 30 minutes it should switch to cooling and you will hear the compressor is running. If it would not then replace the timer too.
