Sorry for the delay. I've been on vacation.

I believe you are on the right track. The temperature sensor (thermistor) can be the issue. This part is absolutely inexpensive and it's worth to try.

The temperature sensor Part number: AP3185407
Part number: AP3185407

Good luck.

thanks again, I will try this.

Gene,
I finally had a chance to try this.I am assuming the thermistor you are referring to on on the evaporator in the bottom of the fridge?
But it appears there are more than one on the box? The video refers to the one in the freezer, you can't find anything specific to this model/ type.

The problem is, there seems that there are two thermistors? There is one in the wall separating the wall between the FF and freezer. see pic. Is there another one on the evaporator per the video?

The big problem is I can't get the plastic cover off the evaporator. I melted the ice, and I can pull it all loose except on the left side in the middle where it abuts the insulation lower left. It will not budge. Is there a trick to this? the plastic is cracking from pulling so hard. What a pain the butt!!

So I guess I am hoping this is being cause by the thermistier in the wall.
Can you advise. If I had the money I would call a technician and end this nightmare.

thanks
Rick

Gene,
I went ahead and replaced the one in the picture. So far no change. I would expect to hear the evaporator fan kick on since the temp is 78F.
It always cools to 45f and stops. But never a fan noise like in the good old days.

All the fans worked when I ran the diags you told me to try. I had also checked the voltages on the MB and they were good.

One constant is that ice buildup you see in the pictures, and water in the bottom of the FF section. The ice is only on that left side there. I guess that is because that is where the coil is coming?
Defrost problem? Would keep the fan from running except in diag mode.

This is really frustrating. I will never buy a dual evaporator again. My old style is 6 years older than this one, never a problem.

thanks
Rick

Hi, Rick.

Attached is the file with instructions on how to get to the FF evaporator.

Also, I found one of the common problems with this refrigerator was an ice ball formed in the FF compartment. In order to correct this problem, GE designed a special ice ball kit. This kit is expensive. In case if you would like to use it I attached the installation instructions too.

The ice ball kit Part number: AP4315424
Part number: AP4315424

Thanks Gene!
So are you saying there is another temperature sensor on the FF evaporator?
I will get another one ordered if so. I will take a look at files you sent.

Amazing how this was the most expensive fridge out there when I bought it, and yet it is a big pile of junk.

Thanks
Rick

You are welcome, Rick.

I still believe you would need this ice ball kit. It is well-known problem for this model.

BTW, an expensive product does not mean reliable in today's world.

Hi Gene,
yes you are right all on all counts. I bought this model because I liked the idea of the dual evaporator. Now not so much. LOL
I have ordered the ice ball kit too. Hoping this and another thermistor will get me back to cold FF section. Thanks for the instructions, I was missing that 3rd screw, You can't really see it on the evaporator cover.
Glad I didn't force it. Should have all my parts by the 6th.
I will report back.
thanks
Rick

Hi Gene,
Hope you holiday is going better than mine. :)
Well I got this thing torn apart, and determined that the evaporator fan is in fact bad. I ran the self test again and the only fan that come on is the beverage center blower. So what I that's what I head before. So Ouch! I guess I need to buy that whole assembly. I will let you know once I get it.
