GREAT advice. Pushed screen aside; it was clogged. Shame on GE for design that is sure to fail. Thanks for info.

This is a great site and thanks a million to the original poster who asked the question and also the poster who provided the excellent answer! I shudder to think of all of the people that have paid hundreds for service calls to repair something so simple that was caused by a poor design.

This applies at least to the following GE built-in oven models: JKP15, JRP15, JTP15.

I discovered the problem when I got the F2 error during the first time I ever utilized the self cleaning function. Obviously the extreme temperature of the oven during this operation created a large amount heat behind the control panel that the fan could not remove due to the blocked filter.

In addition, the control panel fan has been running for hours longer than it should every time I used the oven for about 10 years! Per the answer that was given, I removed (tore out) the fan filter completely.

Looking forward to enjoying the greatly reduced fan run times!

Wow. Please add me to the list of folks offering a big "thank you" for the info in this thread. I'm hardly a handyman, but this was an easy fix. Thanks again.

Haven't been able to use the self cleaning feature for years. When I first got the F2 code, I did a Google search and "bad heat sensor" came up. Thinking service call and big money, I didn't do anything. Recently, I read your solution. Within about 5 minutes and following your directions, I was able to remove the clogged screen and the self cleaning feature is working correctly. Thank you!

I was able to remove the control panel and can see the screen behind the fan is totally clogged. How do you remove the screen? the fan is bolted to the back of the panel and the screen is behind the fan. Thanks for your help!

How did you remove the screen? Its behind the fan and the fan is bolted to the back of the oven.
