I have a built in Ge oven JTP15BW2BB purchased in 1998. When I try to use the self clean I get a code "F2" after 1 hour. I have to turn the breaker off for a while for it to clear. I don't know if it would be worth it to call a repair man and my husband is a great handy man and an electrician so I am sure he could fix it if I can tell him what to look for. All else on the oven works just fine. Can you help?

Behind the control panel is a cooling fan. Either the cooling fan is not working, or (most likely) the screen behind the fan is clogged with dust... F2 during clean is an over heat error in the control panel section. You can remove the control panel by removing the 3 screws under the panel, then lift up and off....Make sure you turn the breaker off first...

I can hear a fan blowing while it is working. Is that the same fan you are referring to? Is this the only thing it can be. Things won't go flying when you take that cover off will they?

I guarantee you the screen is clogged if you hear the fan running. No, nothing will go flying when you remove the panel. When you get in there, remove the fan and get rid of that screen.

OMG!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. My oven has been cleaning for 3 hours so I would say it is fixed. It has been years since I have been able to clean my oven properly. No telling how much money this saved us. This is a great site and I am spreading the word.

Searched the Internet and found you solution above and sounded like good advice. Removed the screen and the oven works perfectly. Airflow at high temp now able to be controlled by the oven fan with the increased efficency allowing adequate airflow. Thank you, thank you At $186 a "rescue" you should be able to weather the curent economy.

I have the same oven, GE JTP15, purchased back in 1997 and have had the F2 error after about 1 hour when cleaning for some time. My husband and I followed your suggestion, removed the screen (which was clogged) and set the CLEAN cycle to 4 hours.. worked like a charm!! Yay!
