My son has a GE Mod. GSS25QFMC WW refrigerator freezer that wont go into defrost. Heater resistance is 17 ohms. From what I read that is good. Is there a way to force it into defrost? Resistance readings are taken with freezer cold. Defrost heater and thermostat replaced about a year ago. Main board replaced may 3 or 4 years ago. Defrost did work after heater replaced. Again is there a way to force it into defrost. What should we check next and how? Thanks

Hello Smokyjoeko. You can force defrost by using a jumper wire on the main board and going across the line (J-11) and defrost terminal (J-9). This should turn the heater on. If the heater comes on, then the heater and the defrost thermostat are good and the main board is bad. If the heater does not come on, and the heater is reading closed for continuity, you will need to replace the defrost thermostat. Part number: AP3884317

My son completely defrosted freezer then replaced main board. 4 days later evaporator is froze over again. How often should it go into defrost? If it does not go into defrost soon what should we do?
Thanks

If the board is new, it should go into defrost once every day. If the unit is not defrosting, you will need to check the thermostat and the heater in the unit.
