The washer will not spin or agitate. Belt is good. Motor does not even kick on. Wire connections to the motor are good. Tried washing a rug inside of washer. it ran through its entire cycle until it reached the drain and spin cycle. The washer then made a Bad noise. Tried running to it to shut it off, but it just stopped spinning. It still drains just fine. I thought that maybe I either broke the belt or the wire connecter had come loose, but both of those are fine. Did my motor just die on me, or could it be something else? I can turn the tub easily with my hand and the agitator seems to be working fine.

No noise at all from motor when it should be running? No humming? You should not be able to freely rotate the tub by hand. With front panel off, reach over into tub and rotate the tub, does the whole transmission rotate with it?

The noise that I think I am hearing is that little pump that drains the tub. the inside of the motor and belt spin when i spin the tub.

Does the entire transmission rotate when you rotate the tub by hand?

It's the big silver metal thing right under the center of the tub.

Yes the transmission does spin when I turn the tub by hand. It does not spin the belt though

Well, for one thing, your transmission is bad. You should not be able to easily rotate the tub by hand. You have other issues as well if the motor will not run, possibly a bad lid switch which you could check for continuity or just bypass it. Check the hole in the top panel under the lid where the lid strike contacts the lid switch. Is there a white plastic piece in that hole? Can you press down on it and hear the lid switch click? If the white plastic piece is not there, it may have vibrated off and is now at the bottom of the washer somewhere.

the lid switch works just fine. are new transmissions for the washer expensive and hard to install? or is it just a lost cause machine?

You said the motor doesn't kick on. The lid switch completes the circuit to the motor. How do you know that it works fine? A new transmission is $240 and requires complete disassembly of the washer to replace.
