We bought this washer used off of Craigslist about 8 months ago.
The washer won't spin with a load of wet clothes. This began as an occasional problem but became constant of recent.

The motor is clutchless. I removed the agitator and verified the coupler was OK. I then removed the belt and pulley to examine the transmission spring which was not damaged.

When putting the belt back on, the transmission was rotating clockwise when I was guiding the belt back on. I could hear pieces falling around inside when it was rotating.

I suppose this indicates the transmission is broken inside which means it isn't worth fixing due to parts cost and explains why the spin problem exists.

Any ideas that say this isn't the transmission ( though I don't see how it isn't ) would be very appreciated. I'm obviously not wanting to buy a new washer after getting Clist ripped off, meaning now I know why that woman had a new washer sitting next to this one and of course she told us it worked great.

I'm at a loss as to any other feasible option.than to replace.

Thanks

Yeah, I gotta go with the transmission. If you decide to buy another used machine I recommend a Whirlpool direct drive top loader without electronics. They are reliable and easy and inexpensive to repair.

Thank you for your reply! I just saw this today but did buy a used direct drive whirlpool without any bells and whistles for $50 off of Craigslist. It runs great!

After this experience I'd never buy another GE washer. I wasted even more time removing the inner tub on the chance an object may have been stuck between the inner and outer. Nothing. I then junked the washer and went Craigslist shopping.

Thanks again for replying, sidfink43! Take care
