There is power with the plunger in either position. I am touching the red wire to another post. Is that right since I only have a circuit tester?

Yes, power at the door latch and power where that wire attaches to the control panel.

It will just unplug from the control, very easy.

I finished installing part "Whirlpool 6-917723 Panel-con" on my Jenn-Air dishwasher and it seems to want to work but when I touched "normal wash and start" it just blinked. What did I do wrong?
