Frigidaire side by side freezer just doesn't get cold enough. I have cleaned the compressor and compressor coils. All fans are working. The defrost cycle works fine. The Evaporator doesn't ice up, it just gets frosty. The Fridge is exactly the correct temp. There is free airflow with no blockages. The evaporator fan is running almost continuously, except when the defrost cycle kicks in. The compressor pump shuts off, then comes back on occasionally. I am not sure if the thermostat is bad (I don't get appreciable changes on temps by adjusting the freezer or fridge thermostat controls). Maybe I am low on freon? Not really sure...kinda stumped? Any help?

HI.
Check if the evaporator coils are covered with frost completely.
If they are try to adjust the temperature for coldest freezer.
Measure the freezer temperature.
If they are not covered all the way - then it's a sealed system problem and you need a professional repairman.
Post the results.
Simon.

Simon, Coils are evenly frosted. When I woke up, everything was cold (fridge was fine) and freezer was -7C...just like it had been. The fans and compressor were not running until I opened the doors to check the temps, then the system kicked on again. Still holding normal fridge temps and weak temps (-8 - -5 C) in the freezer. Must be global warming? Any Ideas?

Remove the freezer panel and wet your finger and touch any exposed coils. The skin should stick to all the coils. If not, or just some places, you have system problems for a pro to look at. It would help if you posted the fridg and freezer temeratures in farenheight.

richappy, Did what you said. All coils in the evap are evenly frosted and are the same temp. All passed the test as directed. Fridge temp hovers around 38-38F (5C) and the Freezer is 20-22F (-7--6C) not cold enough for Ice Cream.... Not having any luck... any additional Troubleshooting?

The actual evaporatore core temperature should be around -20 degrees, yours is not. Suspect sealed system problems.
