Kenmore (Amana)596.79142993 Refrigerator / Freezer not Cooling
Fridge @ 55 degrees and Freezer at 48 degrees
Started diagnosing by checking condenser coils which are under the unit. Vacuumed them the best I could - not very easy to get to.
Condenser fan is running fine.
Compressor is warm and feeling the 2 copper pipes coming off of it one is cool all the time and the other one sometimes gets warm but never hot - how hot should the high side pipe get? too warm too touch?
I believe the evaporator fan is working since it is spinning and there is some air coming out of the vents in the fridge and the freezer
When I took out the back wall of the freezer, there was an ice ball in one corner. The coils looked fine but there was that ice ball, maybe around the thermostat? I took a hairdryer and melted away all the ice.
I thought everything would work fine once I got rid of the ice but still not getting cold.
Not really sure what my next move is.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The ball of frost probably means your refrigerator is very low on freon. There isn't enough freon to fill the whole evaporator so only one small area gets cold. Unfortunately its probably not worth repairing.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to give up on the old fridge.
Found a replacement on Craigslist and now I'm back among those with good refrigeration.
