If a lid switch is bad can that be the reason why the water in the washer will not drain:confused:

If a lid switch is bad, then there would not be power to the motor. Lid switch is a safety devise.

Gene would you happen to know if a gas dryer model# dbxr463gd2ww has a thermo-fuse or are thermo-fuses located on certain models. And if so where can I find it on this model, also I'm interested getting certified in appliance do you have any advice or references for any classes thanks again

Usually such devises are located on or around a blower housing or an air ducts. In GE dryers you can find them also on or around heat deflectors and/or diffusers.
I'm not sure about education. You have to check it with local people. Most common education is "in field".
