Hi,

What do i take apart? or where do I start when it comes to replacing the tub seal on my washer? I just ordered the part but I don't know how many things to tear-down to get to it. What is the best approach?

Cheers,
:)

4evrmoor,

Is this the part you orderred and received,

Part number: AP2142342
Part number: AP2142342

First thing you want to do , is unplug the power cord and turn the water faucets off. You'll need to move the washer out enough to raise the top panel and access the tub assemblies.

To raise the top,
In the seam between the front panel and top, use a flat blade tool and press in on the two spring clips (approximately 2 inches in from the corners of the top)and lift the top up.

Remove the agitator
lift the softner dispenser off the agitator, remove the mechanism cap from the interior of the agitaor, using a pair of pliers and a cloth, pull upward firmly until the cover pops out. Using a 1/2 in. socket remove the bolt from the center of the agitator shaft and lift the agitator off the shaft.
Drive hub
The drive hub is forced on the transmission shaft by the bolt that holds the agitator to the transmission shaft. Place a screwdriver between transmission shaft and the drive hub and force the drive hub off.
The Splash/Tub cover
Unsnap the pressure hose from the cover. Using a screwdriver, unsnap the tub cover and lift off.
The Spin Basket
Using a 1/2 in. socket remove the five bolts holding the spin basket to the trunnion, lift the basket out.
The Trunnion
Using a 1/2 in. socket loosen the two bolts holding the lockplate to the agitator shaft, and lift the trunnion off the shaft.
Top half of the Tub Seal
Push down on the brass ring to release the rubber seal and pull the seal and brass ring off the shaft.
Bottom half of Tub Seal
Place your thumbs on the bottom seal towards you and your fingers on the other side. Push down and in with your thumbs and pull in and up with your fingers to pop the seal out.

Reverse the procedure and re check for operation and leaks.

This is a general instruction from the manual, but will get you through the repair.

Good Luck,

I assume that since it needed to be poped out when uninstalling it, then it should completely be inserted into the outer tube center at installation. Am I correct or you just have to slide it and put the top half over it?

Albert,
You're on track, you do need to get the seal into the tub opening first. A dab of liquid detergent or rinse softner , will help.

Thanks,

:) :) :)
