My 2yr old GE has sprung a leak... it trickles down the shaft from the tub ont the mode-shifter/transmission...I did some searching and managed to remove inner tub and the "split ring" so I am staring at the rubber seal that needs to be replaced...Unsure of next step...which might be obvious once I have the new part in hand...but do I just grab the rubber with pliers and pull it up/out... doe the new part just slide down shaft and is seated in the hole...what holds it in place? I have a washer that looks exactly like this: Tub, basket & agitator replacement parts for General Electric GHDSR316H0WW Washer | AppliancePartsPros.com

You will see 3 tabs on the seal case.Pull up on 1 of the tabs and the seal should come out.Do not try to pry seal out because you might crack the outer tub flange. new seal goes back on the shaft but be careful that you don't cut the seal going over the treads of the shaft.
Hopefully the water has not damaged the lower bearing in the spin-tube. You will know by the sound of a roaring sound during spin cycle.
