My whirlpool dryer wont start. The light and timer seem to work so I thought that it might be the starter button. I bought one and put it in and it still does not start. Just wondering if you have any ideas? thanks Phyllis

Something easy for you to check would be the door switch.
Open the door and find the switch. Push it in and out by hand to see if you hear it click on and off.

If it clicks on and off it should be ok.

I've got the same problem with a whirlpool mod. LER7620LWO. When I turn it on, the heat element heats, but the motor doesn't run. The start button clicks when pushed, and the door switch clicks. I have 122V on all blue wires even with timer switch in off position. Is that right? Which wire should have power when the switch is on, but no power when it is off?

Dear BobB1,

CLICK HERE FOR PARTS BREAKDOWN TO REFER TO

If the dryer does not run it could be a number of things including: timer, start switch, door switch, thermal fuse, high limit thermostat, cycling thermostat, motor.

The start switch, door switch, thermal fuse, high limit thermostat and cycling thermostat are most common and can all be checked for continuity (they should have continuity if not that part could be the problem)

If you have the knowledge to read wiring diagrams you can find the 2 leads from the timer that supply the power out of the timer remove the wires and set the timer to the timed cycle and you should have continuity through those 2 wires if not suspect the timer.

If you hear a loud buzzing or if you can "help" the drum start to turn it could indicate a bad motor.

Adam, I found it. The timer, start switch, door switch, and motor all checked okay. There was no continuity in the thermal switch. I jumped it to test it, and the dryer worked. Thanks.
