Can you hear the compressor attempt to start or run ?

Do you hear a loud clicking noise from the back of the refrigerator ?

Try this first,

Open the freezer door and remove one of the lower shelves, look at the back wall of the freezer compartment and see if it is coated with "snowy" frost or ice.
It may be a simple defrost problem, and the evaporator is so clogged with ice, it can't circulate the air.

Well, the problem is not due to a defrost problem, but the clicking noise from the back indicates a bad start device or compressor.

If you don't have a multi meter, to test circuits and voltage, your best bet at this point, would be to order and install the compressor relay kit.
( that's a more common failure than a bad compressor )
