Per the previous posts you replaced the defrost heater and the thermostat and fixed a bad joint on the control board. I did not see any your reports regarding the dispenser heaters.

The thermostat you replaced does not control the defrost cycle. It is a safety device to prevent possible heat damage to the plastic parts in case if the defrost heater will run longer than it should.

The defrost cycle controls by the thermistor on top of the evaporator.

I would replace the main control board and the thermistor on top of the evaporator.

- The main control board Part number: AP4436216
Part number: AP4436216



- The thermistor Part number: AP3185407
Part number: AP3185407



The thermistor can be just spliced in, using a wire nuts and a plasticine as hermetic.

Is this the one that is connected to the evap fan?

Do you know if the control board is returnable if that doesn't prove to be the problem?

Gene,

The new control board and thermistor are installed and all seems to be running well. Per chance, I opened the door during a defrost cycle and saw that the heater was working. That was a relief.

I noticed that the new control board is different from the old one. I hope the difference indicates a design improvement.

With this new board it appears that the evap fan does not power off when either of the doors are opened. Do you know if this is by design or could this be a sign of a new problem?

You are welcome Jon. I'm glad it's up and running.

I do not think there is something wrong with the fan running wile the door(s) are opened, especially if it was for more than 3 minutes.

Gene,

It's been three weeks now and there is no frost building on the inside anymore. I'm cautiously optimistic that it's fixed. I'll continue to monitor it and post any problems if need be.
