My wife and I purchased a new Whirlpool (MSD 2651 HEW) side by side refrigerator 2 years ago from Home Depot. I started making a loud busing noise (about every 10 minutes) and food in the freezer was thawing. I called Home Depot and Whirlpool and the both told me it was out of warranty, so I called an appliance repairman. By the time he showed up the noise stopped and the freezer started freezing again. He checked the compressor current draw and said it was good. so he cleaned the condenser coils (on the bottom of the unit) as best he could. It worked great for about a week. Now the same problem is occurring again. If I unplug the unit and allow it to sit for about 20 to 30 minutes and plug back in, the noise is gone and the freezer works fine.

You probably have a hard starting compressor,or maybe a outlet voltage problem. Check your wall socket voltage while compressor is trying to start, if well below 115 volts, you have a socket problem. If ok, click on your model # above and order the compressor start relay.Make sure you get the original factory part.Do NOT use a hard start 3n1 unit. If this fails to fix the problem, you have a bad compressor.
