I have a Maytag washing, model LAT9356AAE, and the agitator does not seem to be working properly. It is moving during the agitation cycle but seems like it should be moving faster to get the clothes clean. Is there someway someone can tell me how fast a typical agitator will agitate? I checked the belts and they look good. There's no strange sounds coming from the motor during the agitation cycle. I'm not sure what else to check and don't want to buy a new washer before checking this one out. Any help is appreciated.

Appliance man could be correct, you may have a problem in the auger assembly of the agitator.

You have 2 speeds on the motor, and those are controlled through the cycle selection on the timer dial / control panel.

As you requested :

You will need to mark the top of the agitator if you wish to count the OPM(strokes).
(not the dispenser cup , not the auger).

Fast / regular agitation, is approximately 150 OPM(strokes).

Slow / Gentle agitation, is approximately 100 OPM(strokes).

I could not count that fast, even with a mark, I tested it on the slow speed !

You did say you checked the belts and they looked OK, correct ?

Were it me,

I'd look at two things at this point,

Check the drive belt "V" surfaces for excessive glazing(shine)

With both belts off the machine, and the front panel off,

Check the motor mount slide plate and rollers for lubrication and free movement, and too much side motion on the upper plate assembly.

There should be 2 springs on the motor mount slide assembly, you may want to re position 1 of the springs if they are both on the same side of the motor shaft.

And lastly, your may want to re adjust the drive belt tension(especially if you need a new belt).
