I bought a $15 pencil point type, but in retrospect the one I had probably would have been fine. I found the p/n's. I used Panasonic made parts;
for the 68uF - Mouser 667-EEU-FC1V680 and for the 470's - Mouser 667-ECA-1VHG471. The Panasonic part number is the same as the Mouser number, just drop the first three digits. I also bought the parts I mentioned above, but went with the panasonics. I had never heard of the other company.

Yeah, if Thermador did sell the capacitors (which they don't) they would be making a killing at $1.08 each.
They don't want any part of this repair and refer you to a third party, and after you convince them that they do repair this display, they will quote you $178.

Thanks to Doug Cuny for parts list etc etc for helping me make a succesful repair to my SCD302. After hooking up the display after connecting each new capacitor, it was the small one (68u) that seemed to be the culprit. Not too hard a job. A little scary. My family thought I was nuts, just to attempt it. Had a little experience soldering an old Heathkit TV when I was a kid... Now to repair the golf ball shattered glass in the oven door :mad: My 12 yr old starts working a job tomorrow to pay for this one:)

I replaced the 3 capacitors and the display is still dim. Any other ideas?

Sorry, no ideas from me. Unless of course you wanted to retry doing the capacitors. Maybe one of the joints didn't come out good?

I keep reading about a soution for the display issue and am curious to know if anyone has been successful with this bit of surgery on a CMT227N.
It is a 1999 model, so a little older than the 302. The "not repairable" I get from Thermador has put me in a bit of a bind in that the unit fits in a narrower opening than most ovens available today.
