Aout the only thing free will be the phone call. My fridge did the same thing last night. I too found swollen burnt smelling capacitors and replaced them with some new ones and everhting has been running right on it since. The fix was very easy for me, but I think almost anyone could do it with $3 worth for the 2 capacitors and $20 for a little soldering kit and a solder sucker. I called GE for the free fix and was told they would have to send someone out at my expense around $100 and the board would be free. What?! Told them I am a refrigeration tech and I can change it myself just send me the board and they wouldn't do it! Well, they would send me the board, but they wanted $189 for it!!! What? I can't replace my own "free replacement" board? I still have to pay for their design fault? This just doesn't sit well with me. I have even started to wonder what becomes of those boards when their technician replaces it?

Thanks- Who do I call and what do I tell them? If you are somehow handy then you probably can fix it yourself, paying only for parts (looks like the main control board and the evaporator fan motor). Otherwise you have to call a certified technician. - The main control board Part number: AP4436216
