Ice Maker Issue

I have a Kenmore fridge that is having an issue at the water tube fitting on the upper inside left corner that feeds the ice maker. The unit itself makes ice and sounds normal when calling for more water. The cubes seem normal and turn out and drop fine. The main issue is that a solid block of ice has formed just below the water inlet tube that dripped down and covered much of the evap coils/wiring and a good amount of ice under the freezer base liner. I unplugged/turned supply off & took the freezer apart and melted all the ice and cleared the frozen drain line. As I was melting the ice it looked as if the water inlet that feeds the ice maker was still seeping through that softer material that surrounds that tube. It could be just more melt-off...not sure as it seemed to eventually stop. I did some research and most problems point to the valve solenoid/water inlet valve. Does this sound correct or should I focus somewhere else. Thank you for the help.
