It doesn't go through the cycles. It will stop before the rinse cycle, then i have to reset it to rinse, but then it will stop before the spin cycle and i have to prompt it again. It is very frustrating because i have to keep going in and switching it to the next cycle. What would make it keep stoping before all 3 cycles are finished?

It could be a bad lid switch or a bad timer.

In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the washer.

Unplug the power cord. Open the control panel, unplug the lid switch harness plug and bypass the lid switch (#9 on the break down diagram). Run the washer and see if it'll work properly.

Post the result.
