For several months the ice dispenser has made a loud buzzing noise when working. I assumed it was a solenoid problem. Yesterday, the dispenser stopped working entirely. To be safe, I'm considering ordering the following parts: control board, solenoid and dispenser switch. If I'm going to attempt to do the replacement myself, I'll need some pretty detailed instructions on how to proceed. For example, I assume I access the parts from the front but how do I get the cover off? Pretty basic, right?

The alternative is to get a new refrigerator since I imagine having this 11 year-old model repaired by a professional would cost $200 to $300.

The front cover pops right off, get a putty knife and slide it up from under. once you get that off, take out the 4 screws in front of you. Remove the pad you press your glass against for ice, it is attached to a square black plastic piece that just snaps in. now pull the whole assembly forward enough to get disconnect the wire harnesses, and remove the rest of the way, if you get hung up let me know. Once you get the front face plate off, you will see exactly what I'm talking about. This is a real easy repair

O.K. Thanks, I got the cover off. [One of the two little prongs broke off in the process, so I'll need to know if there is a work around for that.] I removed the eight screws (but who's counting), pulled the unit out (it's a very tight fit -- it's going to fun getting it back in), and disconnected the wiring harness and the ground wire. Only the water line remains connected to it. The very top of the pad that starts water or ice flowing has scorch marks on it, so something must have shorted. The dispenser unit is encased in insulation and the compartment into which it fits is lined with styrofoam. I don't see any of the parts that I assumed in my earlier message would need to be replaced.

Help!

First off, you took off the wrong thing. You took out the 8 screws aroung the outside of the whole assembly, You only need to take out the 4 screws that hold the assembly that your slide switches are on. Everything is attached to the plastic assembly you removed, put all of that back and just remove the assembly where your slide switches are.

That was a lot easier. I know you know what I'm seeing after having removed the face plate and the 4 screws but, for the benefit of others who may have this problem in the future, here's an image:

So, what parts should I order and how do I install them?

Thank you.

I've received the parts I ordered from you and replaced the circuit board. Fortunately, i also ordered a solenoid since the old one appears to be rusted out. How do I gain access to remove the three screws that hold it in place? Does the plastic part (No. 58 on the drawing) into which the circuit board is inserted come out or does it just drop down?
