My top load Kenmore 90 series washer started making a very loud buzzing noise during the spin cycle today. It will not agitate, smells VERY hot and is now leaking a dark sticky fluid under the washer. Any suggestions?

It sounds very much like your transmission has failed, probably because a seal failed and leaked out the transmission oil.
This is not a difficult repair and if you will post your model number we can identify the part for you and give you some guidance on how to replace the transmission, but you may also want to think about replacing the machine with a nice, new no frills top loader. I just received a flyer from a regional appliance store in our area for the basic machine for $295.00 and you can get a very good basic machine for around $350.00.

It would help if we had a model #.
