Ok the dishwasher seemes to run fine thru all the cycles.... but after it doesn't drain. leaves about 2" water in the bottom. We just bought it off craigslist and got it installed. What do yall think it might be? We leave about 3-4 cups of water start a cycle and stop real quick seems to start to drain but then water just comes back up the drain.

Could you clarify the above. Are you talking about the house drain or the machine.

Here is an install sheet

If installed onto a garbage disposal was the drain plug removed?
If it is water coming up into the sink you probably have a partial house plumbing plug.
To check this you could drain it into a pail. Hold the drain line securely in the pail and put a tower over it to stop it from splashing all over. Unless you want a shower.

Is the drain line looped up higher than the drain input, see the install sheet.
This prevents the unit from siphoning water back out of the drain.

Remove the sump cover (Item 506 in Section 2) and check the sump for debris and twist ties etc. wrapped around the chopper. Be careful there is often broken glass in the sump. Also take note how the inner part is installed, re-install it wrong and the chopper will eat it. Probably not a bad idea to do this anyway on a used machine.

Remove the filter (rear, bottom of the tub) and check the Piston & Nut (Item 564 in Section 2), it unscrews. If the seal on it is gone/leaking replace it, as part of the water is directed back into the tub instead of out the drain so it never drains completely. A very common problem with these units.

Note: These units usually leave about a 1/4 inch of water in the tub.
These pumps do not like to run totally dry as they can burn up the seals.
If you have to empty the sump always add a quart or so of water to the unit before re-starting.
