Gentlemen,

Recently, I discovered that my freezer (20.6 cu. ft - upright) stopped working (partially thawed meat). I advanced the temp control knob from 4 to 6 and heard the compressor kick on. I then immediately dialed the temp control wheel back to 4.

The freezer continued to work for 2 additional days before it went back to being broke (partially frozen water bottles).

I realize the reason may be just about anything but is there anything I can trouble shoot to locate the culprit. I live in a remote area and service technicians are hard to locate.

Thx!

Mik

Hi Mik,

In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the unit.

Gene,

Thanks for your email. WOW, this reply system seems cumbersome. I'm not sure if you'll get this nor am I sure if you will know whom it is from. Anyway, you asked for the model number of my 8 yo Kenmore freezer which is 253.9280213, Serial No. WB02122482. My issue is thus. Upon discovery that my meat was partially thawed in the upright, 20.3 cu. ft. freezer, I turned the temp control dial from the 4 position to the 6 position. Immediately the compressor kicked on so I dialed the temp. control back to No. 4. Things chugged along very well for approximately 2 days before the freezer gave up the ghost entirely. I'm trying to trouble shoot the problem as getting a tech. out to my remote location is challenging at worst. If there are similar folks reporting the same problem and there is a common remedy, I'd love to learn it.

Thank-you Gene,

Mik

Mik,

The first thing I would do is bypass the temperature control.

If the compressor will start then the problem is a bad temperature control.

- The part number for the temperature control is AP2113445

Gene,

By-passed the temp control and compressor started. Therefore, I ordered the part you referenced via our last communication. Thx again.

Does it harm the freezer to sit the 4 days until the part arrives? Otherwise, I'll by-pass the switch and let the freezer run for a bit.

Gene,

New switch works. Freezer has been working fine for days now. I believe I got it licked thanks to your advice. thx again.

However, I forgot how the power leads hook up so i took a guess and figured it is ac and doesn't matter??? If one looks from the dial side I connected the blue lead to the left terminal.

Hi Mik,

I'm glad you were able to fix it. Do not worry about wires - it does not matter.
