water empties from the barrel, but it doesn't spin. We have been able to turn it a bit in the past and then get the machine to spin. However, last night, when you try to manually spin the barrel, it is VERY resistant. Then we did get it to spin but not as fast as it should. Also had to take out much of the load to spin well enough.

Most likely the problem is a bad clutch (#5 on the gear case, clutch and motor break down diagram).

- The part number for the clutch is AP3094537

Here are the break down diagrams for the Roper washer Model RAS8445KQ0

You can find the model number under the lid.

Gene, I have the same problem with my Roper (model RAS6233KQ2). The basket will spin very slowly every six or seven attempts. Sometimes I can rotate the basket and other times I can not. I checked the coupling...good shape. Checked the lid switch, it's good. When I inspected the clutch it appears to look no different from that of a new one. What should I see as a defect?

Check the drive block (#13 on the diagram). You can find the instructions in one of our previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros...ir/373-not-spinning.html

Gene,
I had the same symptoms as the original post. I have a Roper model # RAS8333PQO. I followed your advice and replaced the clutch (same part number you listed - I ordered from Appliance Parts Pros.com Discount Appliance Parts – Appliance Repair Parts). Problem solved! Thank you!

The repair was fairly simple. The only close call was removing the bolt from the top of the shaft (located under the top cover of the agitator). The hex head of the bolt was badly corroded. This washer is only three years old! Almost not enough left on the bolt head to engage with the socket! Fortunately it came out. I replaced it with a stainless steel bolt and washer during re-assembly. I won't ask why the manufacturer didn't use a stainless bolt in the beginning because I already know the answer. Every penny counts!

Thanks again!
Bob

You are welcome Bob. I'm glad you were able to fix it. Thank you for the feed back.
