Hey, I see that other people have had the same type problem, but my washer seems to be much older, so don't know if it's the same problem. I heard a loud cracking sound last week while my washer was going, but everything seemed to work ok...then the next day noticed that the load had not spun. The water will empty, but it will not spin. Tried it on a different cycle and it worked again, so didn't worry anymore about it. Today, several loads later, I heard the crack again, and now it will not spin on the other cycle. Everything else works fine...fills up, agitates, empties, just no spin...help?

You have the same basic Whirlpool made direct drive washer as everyone else who has a Whirlpool direct drive washer. So, you can look at any post of a Whirlpool direct drive machine and it will be pertinent to your machine. The likely reasons it will not spin are the clutch and the drive block. You can replace the clutch with some time and effort, this site will show you how and you can also review the Sticky by Richappy at the top of this page on direct drive brakes, which discusses the clutch. Clutch Replacement on Whirlpool and Kenmore Washersbut if that does not repair it you will need to inspect and possibly change out the drive block. To do that you will need the special spanner wrench to take off the nut under the agitator and remove the basket.
