Okay I have this Maytag Atlantis dryer that I bought used about 2 year ago. Got it home and it worked like a charm. I had to move and after moving in the dryer started of working fine. then about a month later the dryer timer would not spin on perm press or regular dry but it spun on timed dry. Then about 3 weeks ago it would not start so I ordered a new timer for the dryer. The dryer model is MDE7400AYW and the serial # is 19728810cj. the new timer is 33002803. After installing the new timer it starts like normal but the timer still does not advance on Perm press or normal dry but it does advance on timed dry. is this the timer or is there something else that could be causing the problem.

Have you checked/cleaned the sensor bar (item 6 in section 07)?

The way it works is that when there is moisture between the two metal strips there is low current flow. The dryness board senses this and holds the timer advance off. When the clothes are dry, there is no moisture therefore no current path and the dryness board advances the timer to off.

So if the sensor bar is dirty the unit thinks the clothes are wet and does not advance.

Does the dampness sensor have one or two wires on it.

Okay I took of the front of the dryer and found a blue wire laying inside and put it back on the damp sensor and that solved the problem. I want to thank you for all of your help. I really appreciate it.
