Timer on the dyer was acting up. The wife had been tapping on control housing to get it started. Started working with no problems for several months. Last Friday after completing a load we could not get the dryer to come on! Timer ran you can hear it. However nothing else comes on! I pulled the timer and opened it up, I found burnt contacts inside. I ordered and received a new timer installed timer but dryer will not start. Any suggestions?

The first thing I would check for continuity is the door switch. With the door closed the reading should be very close to "0".

Replace the door switch if the reading is different.

If there is nothing wrong, check for continuity across the terminal R1 and the terminal R2 on the start switch while the start switch depressed.

Replace the start switch if it's open.

If this is not the issue then check for continuity the thermal fuse (#23 on the bulkhead parts break down diagram).

Replace the thermal fuse if it's open.

The following article on our forum will explain in detail how to run a continuity test using either an analog meter or a digital meter – How to check continuity with Ohmmeter.

- The part number for the door switch is AP3094142

- The part number for the start switch is AP2947429

- The part number for the thermal fuse is AP3132867

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model LER7646DQ0
