My washer made a loud squealing noise and we smelled burning rubber. This was during the wash cycle. I was able to use the spin cycle to empty the water. I checked the belts, which were worn, and replaced both. The wash cycle now wants to run and the agitator only engages if I wiggle the motor. It looks like the springs are fine. Before I wiggled the motor, the motor drive belt would not turn the agitator, but the motor runs fine. Is this a transmission problem? Is there any more trouble shooting I should do? Is it time for a new washer? Thanks for reading.
