Fridge was transported for 1 hour on its side. It sat upright for 48 hrs before plugging in. The freezer is cold but not freezing and the fridge is cool but not cold. It has now been plugged in for 24 hours. The appliance place said it sounds like it is stuck in defrost mode since it is in fact cooling. But I dont have the $100 to have them come look at it. Any ideas on how I can fix this myself?

Here are your parts, includes a wiring diagram.

Is the compressor running?
You can usually hear it but should also be able to feel it vibrating.
Is it on continuously except when in a defrost cycle or is it cycling?

Is the evaporator/freezer fan running?

If the compressor is running then it is not a defrost problem as defrost shuts the compressor and evaporator fan off.

Defrost occurs for 30 minutes every 8 hours of compressor run time.

I do not think the compressor is running, the only sound I hear is the freezer fan running constantly. I also feel no vibration to indicate the compressor is running.

Does this sound as if the defrost cycle is on, or could there be an another issue?

No.
The defrost cycle would shut off the evaporator/freezer fan, so you are not in defrost. The compressor and the evaporator fan are wired in parallel so when one is on the other should be on.

Unplug the unit and check the wires and start device at the compressor.
Would not hurt to disconnect it and re-connect it.
Then plug it in and see what happens.
Perhaps it is just a loose or disconnected wire.

If the above does nothing, you will have to check if the compressor is getting voltage (red to light blue wires).

If it is getting power then it is either the start device or the compressor itself.

Ok. I am a mechanical idiot - so I will have my husband read this when he gets home and go from there.

As mentioned in original post, it did get transported, so hopefully it is just a loose wire somewhere. The person I purchased from said the unit worked perfectly - so fingers crossed I did not just buy someone elses junk!

Upon looking at the back of the fridge, should those two lines be cut and crimped like that?

Never mind, I looked it up and do believe it is supposed to be like that! We unhooked all re-hooked everything we could and plugged it in. I am worried that was not the problem, as all I can hear is the fan and it does not sound as if the compressor is on.

I am going to have to have someone come out and look at it as we really do not know what we are doing! Thanks for your help!!
