My icemaker for awhile was making ice but it would freeze the ice together and wouldn't come out. Now it stopped working all together. I had an appliance repairman to my home and he didn't even look at it, he just told me I needed a new icemaker and it would be very expensive. How do I know its not something else like the water valve if he didn't look at it? Also if I do replace the icemaker, what parts exactly would I need? I looked at the diagram and wasn't sure besides part #820 would I need? Thank you for a quick response.

First if you replace the icemaker be sure to take the striper (# 821 on your parts breakdown) off your old icemaker and put it on your new icemaker. If you do not the ice will get hung when it dumps.

Turn the icemaker off for more than 30 seconds. Then turn the icemaker back on and within 15 seconds press the feeler arm (the white paddle that moves in and out) in three times. If done correctly the icemaker should cycle and run water.

If it doesn’t run water check to make sure the tube that goes in the back of the icemaker isn’t clogged with ice and if it is clear out the ice and replace the water valve. If it isn’t clogged make sure you have good water pressure and replace the water valve.

If it does cycle and fill with water but doesn’t fill the ice bin in a couple of days replace the icemaker provided the temperature in the freezer seems to be ok.

If it doesn’t cycle replace the icemaker.

Before you do any of this look at that feeler arm (the white paddle) at the bottom of it there is a spring that pulls the arm outward. Sometimes that spring will come loose causing your problem. The spring hooks in place in small holes both in the icemaker and the feeler arm.

Hope this helps!
