I have a whirlpool refrigerator I changed the start device with the overload, the compressor seems to be hot when I touch it and I am still getting the issue where the light inside shuts off and the fridge makes a clicking noice when I turn the theromstat off the fan also starts to blow with the theromstat off but when I put the theromstat on 3 which is the normal setting i am wondering if my compressor is bad?Whirlpool refrigerator model number ET8WTEXVQ02:( :(

Seems like you have a burnt wire someplace in the fridg. This will Usually cause low voltage to the compressor that will damage it and make it hard to start. The problem most likely is a burnt wall outlet.

Check condenser fan; might need to be replaced also.

I would not replace the expensive board till the fridg is checked out for "problems" mentioned.

Agreed, must first find source of problems. If the "Clicking" is from the PCB, then possible faulty capacitors, which affects the overall function of fridge. The condenser fan may malfunction also. I repaired my PCB which had POOR QUALITY PARTS (capacitors made in Taiwan) GE refused to take responsibility.

You might try a portable fan to cool the compressor. I assume you used the right compressor start device and wired it per the original one.
