hello all the people who are smarter than I.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and help. I have a 20 year old GE monogram that came with my house and it is having problems so I priced a replacement and realized that I should try to fix this unit first (between 9 and 11000 dollars for a fridge that fits in the opening just does not fit the budget.

Anyway, I believe I need to install a new icing kit in my freezer I am getting ice in the freezer and it looks like it is coming from around the evaporator unit (at least I believe)

Anyway I am looking at replacing the icing kit GE PART NO WR49X10021
But from what I am reading I have to pull the evaporator out but if I do that I don't see how I can not screw up the Freon charge in the system.

So has anyone done this before and if so am I reading the directions wrong? what's involved with doing this if I am incorrect.

Thanks in advance
-Tony

Hi Tony,

I don't know where did you find it but this is far away from the truth.

The icing kit comes with the detailed installation instructions. This is not very easy job but if you will follow the instructions then you will do it. On the scale between 1 to 10 I'll rate it 6.

I attached the installation instructions for your convenience.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Parts for GE ZISW42DSB Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

Is there an easy way to pull the foam down I am trying to disassemble it while waiting for parts to come in.

have you done this before? Is there an easy way to pull this foam down without destroying it? Part 7547 from the diagram.

Thanks

I do not think you will need it but the best way is to wait until you'll have the new kit in your hands. At least open and read the instructions.
