Microwave just stopped heating food but seems to be operating otherwise. Fan , light, turntable, light all work. All components (magnatron, transformer, capacitor, diode, and fuse) check out with ohmmeter. It has a distinct electrical burning smell when operated. I just examined this closely while operating and notice a distinct stream of smoke emanating from a small hole in the magnatron case adjacent to the connector.
What is this telling me? Has the magnatron failed? Has something else failed causing this problem?

Instructions on Tech Sheet in oven say a good diode should check "infinite" in both directions with ohmmeter on Rx1000. The instruction sheets provided by Simon to another Posting say diode test should indicate "continuity" in one direction and "infinite" in the other. Which is correct?

Can I replace the magnatron from the front, i.e. without removing the microwave from the wall and disassembling the case?

Hi.
Unfortunately you will have to remove it from the wall.
Simon.
