Hi,
this Maytag washer started making a growling noise when spinning and agitating and now stops moving under a load. I can hold slight hand pressure on the drum and stop it from turning, the shaft going into the transmission does turn. Is this a bad transmission? Worth fixing?

This job may take 2-3 hrs if you are a DIY and it's a bit pricey.

It's your call.
