Do not rush with the timer. One of the most common cause for such problem is an obstructed air flow. The first thing I would do is clean the vent all the way from the dryer back panel through the vent outlet. Make sure the outlet flopper is opening properly. Take the dryer apart. Check the blower wheel and clean all air ducts inside. If there is nothing wrong then replace the high limit thermostat (#17 on the diagram) and the cycling thermostat (#8 on the diagram). Here is the Service manual. - The high limit thermostat Part number: AP4036956

Burner does not come on all the time either, runs for about 10-15 sec and skips times that ignitor comes on some times, several times ignitor lights but flame does not happen. Ran it on timed cycle which appears to advance, normal cycle does not. I did replace high temp limit above burner #17 on drawings. Again have maytag. Hoping its not the coils of the burner. Timer still does not advance on normal dry cycle. Air is flowing well outside at vent. had a service guy out but he really did nothing for $40. Suppose I'll call another one.

Sorry for the delay.
