My GE electric dryer will only hum when you try to start it. If you give the drum a push it will start right up and run. Do I need a new motor? (motor is $200, 1/2 cost of the dryer) or can the cetrifugal starter be replaced? I have had other issues with this dryer, mainly poor craftsmanship. Thanks

Here are your parts Replacement parts for General Electric DBSR463EG7WW ELECTRIC DRYER | AppliancePartsPros.comDo I need a new motor? (motor is $200, 1/2 cost of the dryer) Odds are that you will need a new motor. Try rotating the drum in the correct direction to see if there is too much drag on it. You may want to try this on a couple other units to get a feel for it. If the drag is normal then the motor needs replacing. or can the cetrifugal starter be replaced? No, the centrifugal switch cannot be replaced separately, it is part of the motor assembly. At over $200.00 I would not replace the motor especially since you may also need other parts that have worn re: rear bearing, belt, front glides. I have had other issues with this dryer, mainly poor craftsmanship. |
