i've got a washing machine that on fri. i was on the way out of town and needed on more load washed. of course the machine got to the rinse cycle and stopped. it wouldn't run, rinse or drain. also my wife said she smelled somthing like hot or burrning wires. i was in a hurry so i left it for the weekend when i got back on mon. the machine was empty of water but the socks were smelly so i tried to run a smell load...it worked but didn't like it. not sure where to go from here can you help??? i bought the machine used and am not sure of the age 4-7yrs. old

First thing to check is the lid switch. It may be just on the verge of total failure. Open the lid and depress the switch activator with a small screwdriver or similar tool. It should respond with a well defined click. If it feels spongy, replace it.

Open up the console and look to see if there is any obvious burnt wiring or connectors. If there is a circuit boare, look for burnt or discolored components on the board.
