We bought this dryer from a repair shop and it's worked fine for the last year or so. A few weeks ago it stopped drying clothes. I looked online and some sites suggested it might be a tripped circuit breaker, and that only one leg was working. I went and turned the circuit breaker on and off, went to the dryer and unplugged/replugged it. After this little exercise it started heating again so I thought everything was fine.

This week it started up again, so I got a multimeter and tore into it. Per the guides online, I used the ohm meter function on the parts, and none of them checked in at infinity (which the guides said would indicate they were broken). I turned the dryer on and measured the voltage going to the coil, for a little bit it wasn't reading much (i'm not sure if i was doing it wrong or it just wasn't getting it), and then it heated up and got 240 ( i could visibly see the coil heating up, but also put the voltmeter to it).

The guides i've read say that if the coil gets 240v and it heats up its fine and it's something else, does anyone have any ideas about why it would be intermittent like this? Any ideas what I should test next?

I anxiously await a response (and dry clothes).

Hi Doc

If your machine is operating intermittently then all of your electric components should be ok.

I would check all of the wires, including the heating element for a loose connection or a short, and check the connection where the wires come into the connection block. They should be very tight.

Good luck, hope this helps solve it.
