I have a whirlpool self cleaning oven model # RF365PXMW0, the bottom element wont get real hot, the timer starts to count down from 6 minutes when you try to start the oven. When you turn on broil it starts to get hot then shuts down. I tried different settings and nothing seems to work, the elements were tested and they are fine, The repairman I used is not qualified yet he told me it was the control board, is the oven worth replacing the board?, I already bought a new board ($156) but now I am having my doubts about replacing it because he told me it was very risky. Should I roll the dice and replace it, or could it be something else. The oven looks like new although I do not know how old it is?
p.s. he confessed that he has never replaced one, yet the sign outside his home says appliance repair. This oven is in a rental unit.

Those elements operate on 240VAC. I would first check to see if there is 240 (doesn't have to be exact, in fact, it rarely is...close is enough) Volts at the element terminals at the rear of the oven. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL CHECKING THIS VOLTAGE: IT BITES VERY HARD!

We had a real electrician hook up 220 when we bought the place, because it use to be gas.

Quote:When you turn on broil it starts to get hot then shuts down. What " shuts down"? The element, the whole stove, the control??? Quote:I would first check to see if there is 240 volts at the element terminals A power supply problem would affect all elements. If any of them will get and stay red hot, that is not the problem. JFYI Dan O. www.Appliance411.com The Appliance Information Site=D~~~~~~

Let me try to explain better? I have a whirlpool self cleaning electric oven model # RF365PXMW0. When I push the bake button on the electronic key pad the timer starts to count down from 6:00 in seconds, when it reaches 0 nothing happens. When I push the broil button it heats up and then cools down. The temperature reading never shows on the electronic display. No preheat, no nothing, just the timer which always starts at 6 minutes and counts down to zero. The stove top works fine. I had a licensed electrician convert the hookup to 220 and the oven worked fine for the previous tenant. The new tenant used the self clean option and it hasn't worked properly since. Could it be the control board like my UNQUALIFIED repairman said or could it be something else?

What does the display say when " nothing happens" at the end of the count down? This from the owner's manual: "Whirlpool Range Owner's Manual - page 11" wrote:
The START pad begins any oven function. If not pressed within 5 seconds after pressing a function pad, the "START?" or "?" indicator light will appear on the display (on some models).
If not pressed within 5 minutes after pressing a function pad, the oven display will return to the time of day mode and the programmed function will be canceled.
Is that maybe what's happening? "Whirlpool Range Owner's Manual - page 15" wrote:
To Bake or Roast:
1. Press BAKE. Press TEMP "up" or "down" arrow pads to set a temperature other than 350°F (177°C) in 5° amounts. The bake range can be set between 170°F and 500°F (77°C and 260°C).
2. Press START. The temperature can be changed after this step. START does not need to be pressed again on styles 2 and 3 of Electronic Oven Controls.
3. Press OFF/CANCEL when finished.
